This week's RIDDIM & GROOVE classic tune is "The Gorgon" by Cornell Campbell (Hot Stuff, 1975). After Campbell had been part of several voal groups such as The Sensations or The Eternals, he started a solo career in early 1970's. Much of his success and popularity was due to the fact that the legendary Bunny "Striker" Lee took him under his wings. In the following, Campbell influenced both Lovers Rock and - later on - Rub-a-Dub style Reggae. On "The Gorgon" you can hear the signature "flying hi-hat" drum which was an essential part of several mid-1970s hits by Campbell and others. Enjoy this groove as a perfect start into the weekend!
